Exciting Snippetson gelding That's The One put the writing on the wall last start when he closed strongly for second behind star filly Mosheen in a Listed sprint over 1200 metres and ran right up to that form when powering clear to win the Group III VRC CS Hayes Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
Prepared by Colin and Cindy Alderson, That's The One has shown ability from day one, but was somewhat of an unruly talent in the early days, who has now been polished into shape.
He travelled well for Craig Williams, settling midfield and when let loose in the straight quickly put paid to his rivals to win the 1410 metre contest by length, with hot favourite Helmet a disappointing fifth.
"That was a really strong effort," Cindy Alderson said.
"He has always had the talent.
"He's had a few issues with his temperament but he's started to come right.
"When I walked into the track today he looked really on his game and maybe this is his time.
"Craig was fairly aggressive on him but he knew he had the horse underneath him. He was fit enough and he took it to them and hung on well in the end."
With three wins and a second from five starts and $174,063 in prizemoney, That's The One is a homebred for Alderson stable client Bill Sexton and his family and is the second foal and first stakes-winner from the unraced Redoute's Choice mare Chosen.
Chosen had a Bernardini (USA) colt last spring and is now in foal to Denman.
That's The One is the third stakes-winner for young Widden Stud based sire Snippetson, who was also represented by an ultra smart winner at Canterbury on Friday night in Nobby Snip.
