Seven Straight for Super Easy

Media Release - Monday February 20

The New Zealand bred son of Darci Brahma Super Easy (NZ) maintained his unbeaten record against the older horses in Singapore last night, taking his seventh consecutive victory in the Sgp-3 Three Rings Trophy (1400m).

Sent out favourite for the race, three-year-old Super Easy (Darci Brahma x Parfore) drew the widest barrier of eight with top jockey Joao Moreira in the saddle and settled mid-field before mounting his challenge in the straight, eventually claiming the race leaders to win by half-a-length.

Coming into the race trainer Michael Freedman had his concerns about the wide barrier but was impressed with his charge's performance.

"You are always a bit worried when you draw barrier eight of eight," said Freedman.

"Small fields can produce strangely run races but we went into the race without any preconceived plans. The only thing I didn't want was him leading. Being a colt I think he's better when he's got something to chase down.

"The opposition really made him earn it today but in the end he showed what a classy colt he is."

With the son of Darci Brahma now a winner of two stakes races, including the Sgp-2 E.W. Barker Trophy, the colt will be aimed at the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge which kicks off with the Sgp-3 Three-Year-Old Sprint (1200m) on 30 March.

The Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge also sees the running of the Sgp-2 Three-Year-Old Classic (1400m) on 20 April before concluding with the Sgp-1 Singapore Guineas (1600m) on 18 May.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing him race against his own age," said Freedman.

"To date all his seven wins have been against the older horses. We'll go to the Three-Year-Old Challenge with him now and the main question I have is whether he will run out the mile of the Guineas.

"Ultimately I think he will prove a very good 1200-1400 metre horse but we have to give him a chance in the Guineas this year."

Super Easy was bred by M J Ryan and offered by Esker Lodge at the 2010 Karaka Premier Sale where he was purchased by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds for $140,000. Raced by the Joy N Happiness Stable, Super Easy has now taken his stakes earnings to over A$385,000.

Super Easy is one of three stakes winners for his sire Darci Brahma who currently heads the New Zealand Sires' Premiership by 3YO Winners with 14, two clear of the champion sire O'Reilly on 12.
