Saturday was a day to remember for Triple Crown Syndication's Chris & Michael Ward and their team of owners. Triple Crown had three runners present for racing duties and all three came back winners.
First it was 3yo filly Darcibelle (Darci Brahma ex Royal Season) at Kembla Grange backing up after her 2nd placing on debut three weeks earlier. The Gerald Ryan trained filly was quite green on debut but showed she had learned plenty from the experience when she showed great acceleration in the straight under jockey Grant Buckley to kick clear to record a soft 2.5 lengths win. Darcibelle was a $20,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications out of the Inglis Classic sale.
Next Triple Crown's focus shifted to Warwick Farm where their outstanding 3yo Hot Snitzel (Snitzel ex Flames Of Paris) lined up in the hotly contested Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes.
It was one of the best fields for the $175,000 feature race for many years and the result was fitting with a new race record set by the winner Hot Snitzel (pictured) after a thrilling chase by Manawanui.
Hot Snitzel didn't have it easy though, he had to jump and work his way across from the wide barrier to take up a position outside Moment Of Change who railed up on the inside. They set a very solid tempo up front and Hugh Bowman aboard Hot Snitzel, kept the pressure on Moment Of Change the whole way whilst Tommy Berry was able to position Manawanui back in the pocket, no doubt enjoying watching the two leaders do all the work.
In the straight it became a race of three with Hot Snitzel surging past Moment Of Change at the 150m and fighting off a late challenge by Manawanui to win the Group 2 event in slashing time of 1-08.99. Hot Snitzel broke Lonhro's race record and came within a whisker of breaking the course record set by Boasting on a fast track back some 23years ago. Hot Snitzel was a $60,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications out of the Inglis Premier sale. The 3yo has now recorded 5 wins and 4 placings from only 12 starts. He is a multiple Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed and has earned his owners over $630,000 in prizemoney so far.
It wasn't long before the Triple Crown team had to re-direct their attention back to Kembla Grange to watch the Chris Waller trained 3yo Carbon Taikun (Lonhro ex Legally Bay) in the seventh event on the card. With jockey Daniel Ganderton in the saddle, Carbon Taikun was sent out favourite and didn't disappoint his owners.
Carbon Taikun would normally prefer a dry track and sitting back behind the speed however he was faced with a heavy 9 track which does take his dash away, so Daniel elected to take him forward and dictate the race from up front.
While he did over race a bit out in front, it did prove a winning move as he kicked clear early in the long straight and managed to fight off the late challengers to record a gutsy win. Carbon Taikun was a $110,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications from the Inglis Premier sale.
