Canny Lad Filly Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Friday February 24

Darley homebred Glows was rewarded for her consistency with a maiden stakes success in Friday night's Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Never off the board in six starts, Glows (Canny Lad x Lustre (Quest For Fame defeated Empress Rock (Fastnet Rock) by half a length with Our Miss Jones (Darci Brahma) a nose back in third.

Third behind the impressive Soft Sand in the Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caulfield at her most recent start, Glows takes her overall record to 3 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 6 starts for earnings of $104,175.

The 3yo filly is the second live foal of the Quest For Fame mare Lustre.

A multiple placegetter om metropolitan tracks in Sydney, Lustre is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Falaise (Grand Lodge).

Consigned to the 2010 Inglis March Thoroughbred sale as part of the annual Darley reduction, Lustre was sold for just $6,500.

The Ad Valorem (USA) filly she was carrying at the time made $45,000 at January's Magic Millions Yearling sale.

Lustre has a filly foal by Churchill Downs and was bred back to Magnus last year.

Glows becomes the 51st stakes-winner for Darley Stud's veteran stallion Canny Lad (pictured) .

The Golden Slipper winning son of Bletchingly covered 33 mares at his 21st season at stud last year at an advertised fee of $16,500 .
