Unheralded
Strategic gelding Upbeat scored an upset win in the Group II MRC Autumn Classic
at Caulfield on Saturday, providing an important pedigree update for his
half-brother by Magnus that will be offered at the 2012 Inglis Premier Yearling
Sale next week.
The Anthony Cummings trained three year-old was backing up after a close fourth
against older horses at Warwick Farm last Saturday and ran the race of his life
to win his first attempt at a Black Type event.
Sporting blinkers for the first time and ridden forward by Blake Shinn, Upbeat
led for most of the race and defied all challengers to win the 1800 metre event
by three parts of a length, his overall record now three wins from 13 starts with
prizemoney of $228,175.
"It was a great training performance from Anthony in bringing that horse down
from Sydney on the back up with blinkers first time," said Blake Shinn.
"We controlled the tempo and it was a strong effort."
Bred by part-owner Robert Crabtree of Dorrington Farm, Upbeat was a $90,000
Inglis Premier purchase for his trainer from the Yallambee Stud draft and is
the first foal of stakes-placed Silverbeat, a half-sister to Group III winner
Any Rhythm from the Zasu branch of the family of legendary broodmare Humour.
The current yearling from Silverbeat, a colt by Magnus will be offered by Eliza
Park as agent for Dorrington Farm as Lot 230. (pictured)
Upbeat is the 25th stakes-winner for Victorian based Darley sire Strategic,
who has just three yearlings entered for Inglis Premier.
