Smart Winner for Dylan Thomas

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 25
Leading trainer Chris Waller produced a smart winner for former champion racehorse and promising young sire Dylan Thomas (IRE) on Saturday when talented prospect Fern Hill scored an emphatic victory at Newcastle.

Having his second start following a break of eight weeks after an unplaced debut, Fern Hill showed the benefit of his time away from competition when surging home to win the 1300 metre maiden by more than two lengths as a heavily backed favourite.

A homebred for Kerry and Jenny Pooley, Fern Hill (pictured at Coolmore in 2009 as a foal) was foaled and raised at Coolmore and is the fourth winner for terrific producer Floridays and is a three-quarter brother to stakes-placed Altered Boy, a winner of eight races and more than $500,000 in prizemoney.

A regular visitor to the Coolmore sires, Floridays has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock, a filly foal by Henrythenavigator (USA) and was covered last spring by Lookin at Lucky (USA).

Fern Hill is the second Australian winner for Dylan Thomas, who has six entries in the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale next week.
