Exciting freshman
sire, Sharkbite, has established his bona fides in the commercial market place with
his filly from Miss Keaton selling for $75,000 at the opening session of the
2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
Purchased by the Flemington based training duo – Matthew Ellerton and Simon
Zahra – the filly (pictured) is a half-sister to stakes-winner Travino and her price
represents a return of 15 times his 2011 service fee of $5,500 (Sharkbite stood
for $7,700 in his first season at Byerley Stud in NSW).
"Sharkbite is the best value son of Redoute's Choice standing in Victoria and
the results from the sale of his first yearlings bears testimony to that
claim," Eliza Park CEO Cameron Croucher points out.
"After all, he was unbeaten at two himself and is a Melbourne stakes winning
son of Danehill's champion sire son, Redoute's Choice.
"As for the female line, it has to be one of the best families in the Europe …
a real sires' pedigree.
"Sharkbite has been hugely popular since arriving at Eliza Park, covering 100
plus books in the past two seasons and, as evidenced by the result Oaklands
Junction yesterday, buyers clearly like the types he produces.
"The handful of weanlings on offer last year sold well and, in Sydney at the
Classic Yearling Sale, another of the Sharkbites was knocked down for $60,000.
"The Sharkbite filly from Miss Keaton has been one of our most popular lots in
terms of inspections at Oaklands Junction and I'm confident that the other
Sharkbites in Melbourne will be very much in demand."
