The
second session of the 2012 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale has offered some early
highlights with Blue Diamond winning trainer Mick Price securing a colt by
Samaready's sire More Than Ready (USA) and a cracking colt by Fastnet Rock fetching
$340,000 for Rheinwood Pastoral.
Opening the sale on Tuesday morning was Lot 206 (pictured) from Yallambee Stud, a colt by
More Than Ready (USA) from proven producer Seeking a Way (USA), that was
knocked down to Mick Price for $260,000.
The colt is one of only three youngsters to be offered at this sale by More
Than Ready, who is running hot with his two year-olds.
A filly by the sire from Nevermore (USA) made $100,000 yesterday and his final entry,Lot 353, a filly from Zenaat, will be offered later this afternoon.
Fastnet Rock had the two top lots on Monday and set a new benchmark for this sale
early in the day when Lot 240, his colt from So Funny, made $340,000 for New South Wales
based vendor Rheinwood Pastoral when knocked down to bloodstock agent Mark Pilkington, who signed for
BC3 Thoroughbreds / David Hayes Racing.
The fifth foal from So Funny, an unraced half-sister by Spinning World (USA) to
Group II STC Silver Slipper winner Ballybleue, the colt comes from the family
of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur.
He was bred by a partnership that includes professional golfer Paul Gow, who
was on hand to watch the colt go through the ring.
"I own a few mares with some mates and we have them down at Rheinwood on the
Southern Highlands with Ray Willis and Tony Scott, who have done a great job
getting this colt ready for the sale," Gow told TVN.
"It's a great industry and we really enjoy being a part of it... I need to talk
a few more golfers into getting involved!
"We thought he might make 160 to 200, so it's been a great result."
Rheinwood Pastoral is best known for having raised and sold dual Group I winner
Albert the Fat, with other smart stakes horses to come off the farm in recent
times including Unchain My Heart, So Anyway and Havatryst.
Rheinwood Pastoral have three more yearlings to offer at this sale and the
Fastnet Rock colt is the first to go through the ring, so they have certainly
gotten away to a flying start!
