Rheinwood Pastoral and Musk Creek Shine at Premier

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 28
After two sessions of the 2012 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, boutique farms Rheinwood Pastoral and Musk Creek are setting the pace for vendors by average.

Ray Willis' Rheinwood Pastoral have just four yearlings to offer at this sale and sold three of them today at an average $185,667, highlighted by a cracking Fastnet Rock colt (pictured) from So Funny that made $340,000 to the bid of BC3 Thoroughbreds and David Hayes Racing.

The fifth foal from So Funny, an unraced half-sister by Spinning World (USA) to Group II STC Silver Slipper winner Ballybleue, the colt comes from the family of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur.

He was bred by a partnership that includes professional golfer Paul Gow, who was on hand to watch the colt go through the ring.

"I own a few mares with some mates and we have them down at Rheinwood on the Southern Highlands with Ray Willis and Tony Scott, who have done a great job getting this colt ready for the sale," Gow told TVN.

"It's a great industry and we really enjoy being a part of it... I need to talk a few more golfers into getting involved!

"We thought he might make 160 to 200, so it's been a great result."

Situated on the Southern Highlands of NSW, Rheinwood Pastoral is best known for having raised and sold dual Group I winner Albert the Fat, with other smart stakes horses to come off the farm in recent times including Unchain My Heart, So Anyway and Havatryst.

A relative newcomer is Musk Creek Farm, which is situated on the Mornington Peninsular at Flinders and is owned by David Kobritz and run by Dearne Chomatek.

Musk Creek hit the limelight with their Fastnet Rock colt (pictured) from Bellevue Lady (NZ) that topped the second session when fetching $500,000 to the bid of James Bester/Demi O'Byrne on behalf of Coolmore.

The colt was a super successful pin-hook having been purchased for $145,000 from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2011 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

Musk Creek are developing an enviable reputation in a short space of time, having pin-hooked and re-sold as a yearling this season's Listed ATC Breeders Plate winner Pierro, who is being talked of as a genuine Golden Slipper contender and is set to resume on Saturday in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper.
