The third session of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale came to life at lunchtime as three tip top youngsters came through the ring one after another by Encosta de Lago, then Pins and then Fastnet Rock.
The full brother to former world champion sprinter and HK Horse of the Year was always touted as a potential star at this sale and the Encosta de Lago colt from Courtroom Sweetie certainly lived up to the hype.
Consigned by his breeders, Andy Calvert and his family of Kornong Stud Farm, the star colt was sold for $345,000 to the bid of Victorian trainer Dean Binaisse.
His famous brother Sacred Kingdom was sold at this sale in 2005 for $200,000 and went on to win 17 races including the Group I HK International Sprint twice, so there will be high expectation placed on this colt.
Next in was a stunning colt (pictured) from Tyreel Stud by Pins from the former classy stakes-winning juvenile Crossyourheart (NZ).
The first foal of the mare , who comes from the family of another Group I HK International Sprint winner in All Thrills Too, he attracted keen competition before being knocked down to Singapore based trainer Cliff Brown.
Fastnet Rock has been the star attraction at this sale and was in the limelight again today with this filly, a half-sister to stakes-winner Corsaire from blue-blooded import Crystal Choir (GB).
Consigned by Makybe, the stylish bay was secured by Kevin Maloney's Segenhoe Thoroughbreds for $330,000 making her the most expensive filly sold in Melbourne so far this year.
