The
winning run of star Tasmanian galloper Geegee's Blackflash was brought to an
end in the Group III Launceston Cup on Wednesday when five year-old Secret Savings
(USA) gelding Prevailing tipped out the hometown favourite.
Prepared locally by David and Scott Brunton, Prevailing finished doggedly to
nail the gallant Geegee's Black Flash right on the line.
A $20,000 purchase from the Emirates Park draft at the 2007 Inglis Great
Southern Weanling Weanling Sale, Prevailing has won eight races from 21 starts
and more than $216,000 in prizemoney, his Launceston Cup victory his first
Black Type win.
Prevailing is the first stakes-winner for Amulet, a half-sister by Entrepreneur
(GB) to Group II winner Sir Dex from the family of current star mare Secret Admirer,
winner of the Group I ATC Epsom Handicap and Flight Stakes.
He is the 20th stakes-winner for the now deceased Emirates Park based
sire Secret Savings (USA) (pictured), who has been in the news of late as sire of the dam
of Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready.
