10th G1 for Enable

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 23
Now that Winx is off to the breeding barn, the world's best mare Enable went on her winning way overnight at York winning the Group I Yorkshire Oaks and is now on track for her attempt at an unprecedented third Arc de Tromphe in October.

The John Gosden trained daughter of Nathaniel cruised around under Frankie Dettori to win the 1m 4f contest by two and three-quarter lengths taking her overall record to 13 wins from 14 starts.

"It was a gorgeous performance," said her trainer.

"Enable cruised around there and really quickened. She's really turned it on. Frankie Dettori was not hard on her - one flick and hands and heels. Now it's the Arc against the likes of Japan and the Prix du Jockey Club winner, Sottsass. Those three-year-olds are the ones to watch, getting weight. If's she's back to where she was in the Arc as a three-year-old then she'll be mighty tough to beat.

"She has such a competitive mind. If we were married I would have to jolly well listen. She started on the all-weather at Newcastle and the only time she got beaten was when she got boxed in. I've seen some wonderful race mares in my time and she is one of those."
