The Pitons Cup Brings Quality Racing to the Caribbean

Media Release - Thursday September 5
Horse racing in the world's newest thoroughbred centre is set to launch in spectacular fashion with the running of the richest race in the Caribbean in 2019.

The Pitons Cup, named after Saint Lucia's talismanic geographical wonders, is expected to draw participation of racehorses, owners and trainers from across North America and the wider Caribbean when it anchors the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club's maiden race meeting on 13th December 2019.

The Pitons Cup will be one of a series of highlights at the 2019 CECF Saint Lucia – the luxury lifestyle and racing event set to be held on Saint Lucia's National Day. This year's edition draws particular inspiration from the 2015 CECF Singapore which coupled social responsibility and business networking with the richest day of racing in Singapore's history.

The Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club's newly built facilities will be the first stage of the highly anticipated Pearl of the Caribbean integrated development to be publicly unveiled.

Master Planned by internationally renowned architect, businessman, entrepreneur and China Horse Club founder and chairman, Teo Ah Khing, the Pearl of the Caribbean is the most significant project ever undertaken in Saint Lucia, the Caribbean nation famed as one of the world's most popular honeymoon destinations.

Saint Lucia's Prime Minister Honourable Allen Michael Chastanet says The Pitons Cup is one of the island's highly anticipated events and great horse racing moments will be made in Saint Lucia.

"Saint Lucians have been looking forward to having this international racetrack and an event of this nature. We are readying to welcome race fans and enthusiasts from around the world who will be getting the Saint Lucian experience for the first time. The Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club adds to the attractions and activities that already exist on our beautiful and iconic island which is among the fastest growing destinations in the world," noted PM Chastanet.

"The Pitons Cup launches Saint Lucia's entrance into the world of thoroughbred racing and as a Government we are encouraged and excited by the opportunities it creates for our people. There is a passion behind this project to finally see it come to life is a milestone for our country. We are especially happy that the race is happening on our National Day, which holds significance for all our citizens. Great moments in racing will be made in Saint Lucia."

Drawing inspiration from the Pegasus World Cup and The Everest, The Pitons Cup presents a bespoke racing model crafted to appeal to spirited racing adventurers the world over.

The purchase of one of only 12 slots will not only guarantee an entry into the Caribbean's richest race, it will also guarantee the purchaser(s) a thoroughbred to own and race that is also guaranteed a place in the USD20,000 Helen of the West (7 furlongs/1400m) on the event undercard.

"The Pitons Cup sets the tone for the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club and its aspirations to be both a significant contributor across the Caribbean and an innovator within the racing landscape," said Eden Harrington, Director of the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club.

"But core to our club's belief system are the values of community, unity and active contribution. We are part of the community here in Saint Lucia and the success of this fledgling industry here rests on our ability to ensure these values are honoured in every way."
