Wyong trainer Kim Waugh hopes Censor can end a frustrating
start to the 2012-13 season when the he contests Saturday's Pro Ride Handicap
(1600m) at Warwick Farm.
The talented horsewoman has endured a wretched run since August with one winner
and 13 placings from limited starters.
Waugh believes Censor can start to turn things around after
a solid 2-3/4 length defeat first-up over 1500 metres at Rosehill on
November 17.
"I thought his run was good," she said. "We resumed him over a longer distance
than we had before so his condition was always going to be a concern and he got
stuck back along the fence and didn't have the best of luck.
"It certainly wasn't a bad run and this race looks very similar."
Waugh said Censor had taken huge benefit from his first-up run and would
improve again as he moves towards his summer target.
"He's a big, gross horse that takes time to reach peak fitness," she said.
"He's trimmed up a lot off that run and coming along nicely as he
progresses towards the Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) in early January."
Waugh's confident the two barrier
trials the five-year-old had before commencing his current preparation will
allow him to tackle the mile second-up. Censor finished last in a field of
seven and then won a 1000 metre trial at Gosford.
"He's gone to another fitness level since then," she said.
"He'll be ready on Saturday and he's drawn to get the right run. With an
ounce of luck we'll be back in the winner's circle."
Glyn Schofield takes the reins aboard Censor on Saturday and the horse is a $6 chance at Centrebet.
