The Simon Miller stable had concerns after the Group III Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) despite preparing the stylish winner of Saturday's Ascot event.
One of three Miller-trained runners engaged in the race, Hard Ball Get led all the way to post a comfortable win over Fuddle Dee Duddle in the $125,000 feature but the race favourite, the previously unbeaten filly Miss Bux trailed the field.
Miss Bux is believed to have suffered a tendon injury but Miller said he would assess the filly when she cooled down.
"It's a bit of a concern that (Miss Bux's injury)," Miller told Perth Racing. "I'm not too sure what the problem is but we'll wait and see."
Miller said having three runners in the Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic presented a problem midweek with the riding instructions for the jockeys. The trainer said he solved the issue by letting the owners of the stable trio instruct the jockeys.
"It was really weird today. I had a tough week copping sets of instructions from everywhere," he said.
"I just decided to step into the mounting yard, drink some water and have a chat to the ladies and let the owners tell the hoops how to ride them all.
"I had no idea how the race was going to pan out so it was a weird feeling for me from a training point of view so when the gates opened, I just watched it unfold."
However, Miller said Hard Ball Get's rider William Pike rated the son of Aussie Rules to perfection to take away the backmarkers' hopes of running him down.
"He rode it well," Miller said. "He got away with murder but in a small field, it was always going to happen. As I said in winter, he's always been well above average."
Passion Cantata raced outside Hard Ball Get before sticking on well for third.
