Dedline Off The Mark

Mark Smith - Sunday February 2

The first winner is always a milestone for any stallion but for Fastnet Rock’s son Dedline he did not leave it there because a half an hour later he had his second.

They came in the opening two races at Sale on Sunday.

Both winners came from the stables of Cranbourne-based trainer John Price and both were sent off the punters elect.

Following an impressive sixth at his career debut at Sandown on January 22, Deadly Sins went off an odd-on favouite under top jockey Damian Lane and got the job done in style to win by three lengths.

He is the fifth foal and third winner out of the winning Octagonal mare Festivities and cost his trainer $22,000 out of the Rosden Park draft at the 2018 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

That was the third-highest priced paid for a yearling by his sire and he was soon surpassed by the highest priced lot when the filly Phyla Vell opened her winning account with a two and a half-length romp over 1200 metres with Brian Higgins in the saddle.Phyla Vell is the highest priced yearling by her sire

It has taken Phyla Vell a little longer than her stablemate to breakthrough as she was facing the starter for the sixth time.

She was purchased for $32,000 by Grand Syndicates from the same sale as Deadly Sins and will be doubly rewarding for Roslyn Day’s Rosden Park who will be offering her half-brother from the first crop by the royally bred Snitzel stallions America.

America has a very similar profile to Dedline. They both started three time without troubling the scorer but can claim sale-topping bloodlines.

While America is a son of Snitzel out of the champion racemare Alinghi, Dedline is a son of the Coolmore phenomenon Fastnet Rock out of the Zabeel mare Peruzzi won the Group II Light Fingers Stakes and is a daughter of the Group 1 winner Diamond Lover, which makes her a sister to Don Eduardo and a three-quarter-sister to Octagonal (who is the sire of the dam of Deadly Sins), Mouawad, Tristalove and Antwerp.

In three starts for Gerald Ryan, Dedline finished runner-up in a 1200 metre maiden at Warwick Farm but did not race again after tailing off at Canterbury due to Cardiac Arrhythmia.

Dedline is on the board with his first two winners

Dedline had just 15 foals, 13 named, from his first crop. He stands at Rosden Park at a fee of $4,400.
