Ridden by Damien Oliver for Caulfield trainer Mick Price, Nordic Empire looked a true professional in disposing of the $1.5 million Fastnet Rock colt Zulu Land.
"I thought today he was good, a bit off and on, he's got a few things to learn it would be nice to see him race perfect, said Price
"I thought the end of the race was good for him where he showed a bit of stamina.
"He looks like a good Exceed And Excel colt, athletic, plenty of nervous energy about him, knees good, shins good, natural two-year-old type. The only thing I'd love to have a bit more bodyweight on him but not much I can do about that at this stage."
Price said that Nordic Empire would accompany stablemate Geromayo (Charge Forward), who ran second to Sheer Style in the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m) at Ballarat, to the Wyong Magic Millions on December 19 en route to the Magic Millions 2yo Classic in January.
"Geromayo is going to go to the Wyong Slipper and now he will have a mate, which will be good, Price said. "I have worked them together and this horse had the other horse covered."
Nordic Empire carried the colours of BC3 Thoroughbreds who purchased him for $75,000 out of the Tosca Farm draft at the 2013 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling sale.
At that price he was the most expensive of the seven Wilander yearlings sold at public auction.
A son of Exceed And Excel, Wilander (pictured) is a Group II winning half-brother to Group 1 Galaxy Stakes winner Magnus, Group II winner Scandiva, Listed winner Arctic Flight and the Broodmare of The Year Helsinge the dam of Black Caviar, All Too Hard and Moshe as well as well as a colt and a filly that were purchased as yearlings by BC Thoroughbred for a total cost of $7.6 million.
Nordic Empire is the sixth foal of the winning Rustic Amber mare Brown Limestone whose previous foals included the 9-time Singapore winner Future Baby (Bianconi) and the Adelaide winner Old Worlde (Alannan).
