First Stakes-Winner for I Am Invincible

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 14
Yarraman Park's young sire I Am Invincible had a magic day on Saturday with two runners and both of them winners – Bassillique winning the Listed BRC Phelan Ready Stakes on debut and I Am the General beating the heavily backed favourite Chivalry to win at Flemington.

Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds knows how talented I Am Invincible was as a racehorse having trained the brilliant speedster in the early stages of his career and he puts the polish on Basillique, who scored a strong finishing win at Doomben.

Bassillique as a yearlingSettled back in the field by Ric McMahon, Bassilique surged to the line when given clear running to win the 1010 metre dash by a length, stamping himself as a genuine prospect for the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January.

Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Bassilique was a $160,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer and was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of I Am Invincible.

He is the best of four winners from metropolitan winner Sacred Hill, a half-sister to stakes-winner Pottinger and outstanding producer Suggestive, the dam of five stakes-winners led by Group I winner Sky Cuddle.

Sadly, Sacred Hill died in 2012 and her last foal, another colt by I Am Invincible will be offered at Magic Millions by Yarraman Park as Lot 682.

Also successful on Saturday for I Am Invincible was I Am the General, who improved on his debut third in the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat to win at Flemington over 1000 metres.

Iamthegeneral as a yearlingTrained by Shane Nichols, I Am the General was up on the pace throughout before fighting on to win by a neck and has now won $66,000 with a trip to the Gold Coast for the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic looming on the horizon.

I Am the General was a $35,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park and is from a former brilliant juvenile in Group III winning General's Dynasty, a daughter of Magic Millions hero and leading sire General Nediym.

I Am Invincible is now the sire of three winners with Bassilique and I Am the General joined by New Zealand winner Vinnie Eagle, while stakes-place-getters Silent Whisper and Tetsuko add to his impressive tally.

A brilliant sprinter by champion European sire Invincible Spirit (IRE), I Am Invincible has solid representation at upcoming sales with 15 youngsters for Magic Millions and 22 for Inglis Classic.
