AMONG the 131 yearlings in the catalogue for the Central Queensland Breeders 2014 Capricorn Yearling Sale to be conducted by Magic Millions at Rockhampton on Sunday April 13 are eleven lots by Lyndhurst Stud's good Danehill sire Hidden Dragon, a resident at the Kruger's historic Lyndhurst Stud at Warwick.
He is a sire well regarded around Australia through good winners in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and has been consistently a double figure source of successful juveniles. Also, he has been so rewarding in his home State he has taken out the QTIS bonus title seven times in eight years.
The Hidden Dragon collection in the Capricorn catalogue includes progeny that appear worthy of boxes in major stables.
One youngster that has good appeal, not only as a potential good racehorse, but as a future broodmare is Lot 30(pictured) , a showy chestnut filly in the five lot consignment representing the enterprising Laurel Glen Equine Centre, one in the Rockhampton region
It has the much the same colouring and physical qualities of a young Show a Heart. This is not surprising because the Glenlogan Stud located Show a Heart, a five times champion Queensland sire with five millionaires, four of them in Melbourne, to his credit, is a half-brother to her dam No Say, a Celestial Dancer winner over 800m at Esk.They are both from Miss Sandman, a tough Brisbane galloper who won12 races and stakes placed.
Miss Sandman is the dam of seven winners and a sister to Advisable, Brisbane winning dam of Any Suggestion, a Lion Hunter colt who won six sprint races, including a Listed event, and finished second at Moonee Valley in the Group1 Australia Stakes. He is now one of the best younger sires in New Zealand.
Five of the Hidden Dragon yearlings are being consigned by Lyndhurst Stud. They include a 2x3 Danehill inbred colt out of Marikit, a Fusaichi Pegasus daughter of Real Gem, a Danehill half-sister to three Group race winners; a filly from Our Dynamic Lady, a winner of six races, including a Group 3 at Flemington; a filly from Secret Beauty (USA), American stakes winning producer of five winners; and a filly from Flawless Curves, a sister by Sequalo to Holding, a winner of ten sprint races, including a Listed at Flemington.
Represented in the catalogue by a filly from Miss Information, a smart Lion Hunter winner, Sequalo, a former leading Melbourne sprinter, has spent all his stud career at Lyndhurst and has been responsible to date for over 600 winners of 2000 races.
One of his stars is Spirit of Boom, runner up in this year's Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket and then winner at Moonee Valley on March 21 of the William Reid, taking his earnings to $1,850,000. It was a timely effort as Queensland's Oaklands Stud has a colt in the Capricorn catalogue by American Group1 winner Wicked Style and out of No More Crime, a three-quarter sister to Temple Spirit, a brilliant Brisbane galloper who won eight races and stakes placed. She has produced two Group1 winners and million dollar earners, Spirit of Boom and his half-brother Temple of Boom.
One of Queensland's leading sources of quality, the Oaklands Stud has seven lots in their draft, three by Wicked Style and two each by their good sires All Bar One and Ferocity.
Other prominent vendors (four or more lots) include Patinack Farm (13), Oakwood Farm (7) Gainsborough Lodge 6), Greenvale Park 7), Riverside Thoroughbreds (6), Raheen (4), Somme Lodge (10), Superior Thoroughbreds (8), Wattle Brae (7) and Waylon J Stud (4).
