Cox Purchase Wins Wyong MM 3YO Feature
Breednet - Media Release - Sunday, 7 December 2008

Redoute's Choice filly Belle Soleil showed she was on track for a crack at the $1 million Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions 3YO Trophy on the Gold Coast next month with a dominant victory in today's $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3YO Stakes (1200m).

A member of the Gary Portelli stable, Belle Soleil raced clear of her rivals in the straight and cruised home under Glyn Schofield to win easily.

Leading Sydney bloodstock agent Vin Cox (pictured), who purchased Belle Soleil at the Gold Coast in 2007 was all smiles in the winner's stall.

"That was fantastic," Cox said. "She's always had the ability and she's starting to put it all together now."

"She's just needed a bit of time and since it was decided to ride her off the hustle and bustle of the lead, she has enjoyed that."

Raced by Bennelong Bloodstock, Belle Soleil is heading for what connections are hoping will be a date with destiny in the $1 million Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1400m) in January.

"Obviously that is a great target," Cox said. "Obviously that race is going to be a lot stronger - but it's right on the radar."

Cox purchased the filly at the Gold Coast in 2007 for just $220,000 from the draft of Newhaven Park Stud - a bargain basement price for a daughter of Redoute's Choice.

"She was a Redoute's filly and her pedigree was a little light on, but I thought she was one of the nicest types at the sale," he recalled.

"I had a client looking for a nice filly and I thought she would be the right fit - at $220,000 she looks pretty good value now."

Cox went close to the big Magic Millions double at Wyong. His $62,500 bargain buy Koblenz was beaten just a long neck when second to Cortina Gal in the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Slipper.

When the line was reached in the day's feature three-year-old event Belle Soleil ($3.20 fav) held a length and a half margin over We're Lucky ($6.50).

Rare Diamond ($15), back toward the inside rail, was third home, a further long head back.

By Arrowfield Stud's super sire Redoute's Choice, Belle Soleil is the first foal to race to date from Summer's Glory.

A daughter of El Moxie, Summer's Glory won two races on the track - one at 1100 and the other at 1400 metres.

Belle Soleil's third dam, a stakes producer in her own right, is a half sister to the former European champion three-year-old and sire Dancing Brave.

Redoute's Choice (pictured) is represented by 26 yearlings at the 2009 Magic Millions sale next month.

Among them are youngsters from such outstanding race mares as Cannyanna, Freestyle, Hula Angel, Iflooxcouldkill, Kapchat, Purple Groove, Rainbow Bubbles, Stella Cadente, Unearthly and Victory Vein.
