Brilliant Win for Dealer Principal Brother
Tara Madgwick - Monday, 8 June 2009
Three year-old Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) colt Recoup de Fortune, a half-brother to Group One STC Rosehill Guineas winner Dealer Principal, opened his winning account with a dominant victory at Randwick on Monday.
Resuming from a spell of 17 weeks and tuned up by two recent barrier trial wins, the Anthony Cummings trained Recoup de Fortune (pictured Bradley Photography) was sent out favourite and gave nothing else a chance, leading throughout and kicking clear to win the restricted event over 1400 metres by three and a half lengths at his third race start.
“He’s a pretty promising horse,” Cummings said.
“He’s just transferred what he has been doing at the trials to the racecourse.”
Cummings is considering a hit and run mission to Queensland with the aim to adding some black type to the colt’s resume before targeting some high class races in the spring.
“If he pulls up ok I want to take him to the Caloundra in three weeks for the Sunshine Coast Guineas,” he said.
“If he could win that it will push him up the order of entry in some of the better races in the spring and I want to have a shot at the Epsom with him.”
A $150,000 purchase for James Bester Bloodstock from the Reavill Farm draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Recoup de Fortune
(pictured as a yearling) is the sixth foal of Volte, a full sister to Group One winner Drum and half-sister to Group One winner Anamato.
Volte has the perfect record of six foals to race all winners led by the top class performer Dealer Principal, who was also trained by Anthony Cummings to win more than $500,000 in prizemoney highlighted by a Group One triumph in the STC Rosehill Guineas.
Volte had a yearling filly by Redoute’s Choice fetch $800,000 for Reavill Farm earlier this year at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale that was also secured by Anthony Cummings and after producing a full sister to that filly last spring went back to her sire Redoute’s Choice again.
