Fastnet Rocks to Eight Winners
Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 14 June 2009
Coolmore young gun Fastnet Rock wasted no time matching Arrowfield’s Not a Single Doubt on eight winners with the Lee Freedman trained gelding Rockelo saluting at Cranbourne on Sunday.
Unplaced when making his debut on April 9, Rockelo was given nine weeks been runs and emerged better for the break.
He jumped swiftly from barrier four, going straight through to lead and despite racing greenly around the home turn knuckled down to his task in impressive fashion kicking clear to win the 1000 metre maiden by a length.
A $50,000 MM weanling purchase, who passed in shy of his $75,000 reserve when offered by Oakwood Farm at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Rockelo is the first foal and first winner for the Canny Lad mare Tupelo Bloom, a half-sister to dual Oaks winner Domino, Group Two winner Super Natural and also to Court, the grand-dam of this season’s Group One winning juvenile Linky Dink.
Rockelo becomes the eighth Australian winner for champion sprinter Fastnet Rock (pictured) , who is favourite to be the leading first season sire by winners with Sportingbet Australia in what is shaping as a very keen contest.
Fastnet Rock and Not a Single Doubt are now equal on eight winners with the likes of Shamardal (USA) (7 winners), Charge Forward (6 winners) and Lion Heart (USA) (6 winners) nipping at their heels.
