Impressive Stratum colt Pellizotti has always been held in high regard by all associated with him and delivered on the earlier promise he had shown with a strong victory in the Listed BRC Dalrello Plate at Doomben on Monday.

Stakes-placed twice previously before being sent to Brisbane, the Lee Freedman trained colt has thrived since his arrival winning easily first up from a spell at Doomben on June 2.

Stepped back up in class for this Listed assignment over 1200 metres, Pellizotti jumped brilliantly and then eased back off the pace for Dwayne Dunn enjoying a perfect run in transit on the fence just behind the leaders.

When the split came in the straight, Pellizotti accelerated swiftly to take the lead and then held off all challengers in the run home to win by a short neck.

Pellizotti is no stranger to the limelight, having fetched $425,000 when secured by Victorian Bloodstock Agency from the Widden Stud draft at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, making him the highest priced yearling from the first crop of Stratum.

Bred by Kambula Stud in South Australia, Pellizotti is a half-brother to smart stakes-winning mare Strawberry Field, who was in the news recently after selling for $1million at the MM National Broodmare Sale.

He is the third and final foal of stakes-winning sprinter Red Labelle, who died prematurely in 2008.

Raced by a large syndicate of Freedman stable clients, Pellizotti has won two races and placed twice in stakes races from just five starts earning $93,575 in prizemoney and will no doubt benefit from a short break in the Queensland sunshine before tackling the spring carnival.

Sire of this year’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, Widden Stud based Stratum (pictured) now has 13 winners on the board (12 in Australia, 1 in NZ) and is the leading first season sire by Australian earnings and winners.

He is also the leading two year-old sire in Australia by earnings, a title that has not been won by a first season sire since his own grand-sire Danehill (USA) achieved the feat in 1993/1994.
