Gerald Ryan's faith in his former star sprinter Snitzel was amply rewarded on Golden Slipper day at Rosehill when the 2yo filly Flying Snitzel opened proceedings with a gallant win in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence while 2yo filly Snitzerland earned $620,000 his long-neck second in the day's feature, the $3,5 million AAMI Golden Slipper.
To top of a great day for the Arrowfield based stallion, the $100 shot Aliyana Tilde finished third, for trainer Kerry Parker, in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakesbehind the start fillies Mosheen and Streama while at Caulfield the progressive Sheila's Star stormed to a near 4-length victory over 1400 metres, her third win a row.
Flying Snitzel became the sixth stakes-winner for his young sire with a half-length victory over Dear Demi (Dehere) with Strength (Casino Prince) 2-lengths back in third.
Ryan will now target the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick with the filly.
"Right from last year, when she started, she was a 1400 or 1600-metre horse," Ryan said. "The Champagne (Stakes) has always been her aim.
"Whether she is good enough, we'll have to wait and see."
A half-sister to six winners, Flying Snitzel is the eleventh foal and first stakes winner for the Group 1AJC Metropolitan Stakes (2600m) winner Hula Flight.
A daughter of the Sir Tristram stallion Hula Town, Hula Flight died in 2010 without producing another foal.
