The
newly created 'Super Select' session of the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare
Sale was held in Sydney on Tuesday with wet weather failing to dampen
enthusiasm for the top lots, although the clearance rate of 64% justified
vendor expectation that this would be a tough sale.
A total of 133 horses were sold at an average $135,748 generating aggregate turnover
of $18 million, the median settling at $65,000.
Topping the sale at $1,050,000 for Tyreel Stud was Sharp Susan (USA)(pictured) , a Group
II winning half-sister by Touch Gold to Group I winners Spring at Last and
Sharp Lisa, who was consigned on behalf of Paul Fleming Thoroughbreds.
Purchased at auction from the US in 2008 by Paul Fleming for $US2million, Sharp
Susan was secured by Badgers Bloodstock on behalf of a leading South African based
breeder.
"She's a lovely mare and well worth the money," said Grant Pritchard-Gordon of
Badgers Bloodstock.
"There is quite a bit going on in the family at the moment. Her first foal, a
colt by AP Indy was sold as a yearling last year for $60,000, but was recently
re-sold at the Ocala 2YO's in Training Sale for $425,000 to Mark Casse.
"Also her half-sister Sharp Lisa was sold a few years back for $US3.4million and
has a two year-old and yearling by Galileo."
Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud was the biggest buyer, purchasing nine mares for
$2.3 million, their acquisitions headed by Magic Millions heroine Mimi Lebrock,
who was the second highest priced offering at $1,025,000 and was in foal to
Exceed and Excel.
