It's more than a year since Kitchwin Hills staged a 'Man from Snowy River' style search through the hills around Scone for the lost mare No Finding and with two winners on Saturday, her disappearance is all the more frustrating.
First to salute for No Finding was the Peter Moody trained four year-old Turnitup, who bounced back to his best form to score an overdue win in the open event over 2000 metres at Caulfield.
Winner of the Group III BRC Grand Prix last year, the son of Dane Shadow had not won a race since, however had placed on five occasions, so connections would have been overjoyed to see him break through.
He turned in a tenacious effort to outgun Exceptionally and win by a half neck with five lengths back to the third horse.
Retained to race by his breeders, Turnitup (pictured Racepix Vic_))has the overall record of four wins and 12 placings from 25 starts with prizemoney in excess of $328,000.
Making it a double for No Finding was Turnitup's year older full brother Coroner, who won at the Sunshine Coast over 1300 metres by a head.
It was the fifth win for Coroner, who has win close to $90,000 in prizemoney.
Turnitup and Coroner are the last foals from Hula Chief mare No Finding, who was released to the bush to breed polo ponies following a lacklustre start to her stud career.
Dane Shadow proved the turning point for No Finding, as he has done for so many mares of modest pedigree, and while her offspring continue to make their mark on the track, the whereabouts of the mare herself remains a mystery.
There will likely never be any finding of No Finding.
