Promising Stratum debutante Stralia "will win some better races" after kicking his career off with a narrow win at Flemington on Saturday.
Bred and offered at the Magic Millions Adelaide Sale by Summerset Park Stud, the two year-old ultimately was the second top lot of the sale when knocked down to Victorian trainer Mark Riley for $140,000.
Racing yesterday for a syndicate that included both Riley as major shareholder and Summerset Park, Stralia (pictured left - photo Racepix Vic) gave away something of a start before coming with a determined finish to nab the leader on the line in a tight margin.
"They just out sped him early, they went a bit quick but he finished off nicely," jockey Damien Oliver said. "He'll go on to win some better races."
Stralia is the seventh foal of Duchess Cara, a Quest For Fame mare that has left four previous winners including the stakes placed Western Australian galloper Mr President.
Her yearling filly this year made $30,000 at the Adelaide Yearling Sale while she foaled a colt this season to Good Journey.
Stralia is the 96th Australian winner this season for Stratum, who cracked $5million in seasonal earnings at the weekend and stands this spring at Widden Stud a fee of $44,000.
