Impressive debutante Celtic Sea became Fastnet Rock's 14th two year-old winner of the season when convincing at Wyong on Friday.
The first foal of Elusive Quality mare Wickham, Celtic Sea (pictured left as a yearling) had been offered by Newgate Farm at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, where she was bought by Gai Waterhouse for $230,000.
She had been pinhooked from the Magic Millions Weanling Sale the previous year when making $150,000.
She became the 19th winner of the season for Waterhouse who has had an amazing year with her juveniles, including the Triple Crown sweep by this year's champion youngster Pierro.
Celtic Sea has a way to go before measuring up to that standard however she put paid to her rivals comfortably in the heavy ground in the style of a horse that will continue on to a better class.
Wickham was sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $80,000 in 2010 to the Nicconi Syndicate and currently has a weanling by Nicconi on the ground.
It continues on an outstanding late season run for Fastnet Rock's juveniles.
In this latter part of the season he has produced youngsters in Nechita, Destruction, Ninth Legion and Your Song, all of which have pretensions to top quality and appear to have him beautifully placed for another strong group of three year-olds in the new season.
