Young Danehill sire
son Dylan Thomas (IRE) has enjoyed a very productive year in 2012 to date and
he has enjoyed something of a purple patch in recent weeks.
In Australia on Thursday, he sired the sixth individual winner from his first southern
hemisphere crop when the Adam Durrant trained Gladstone saluted on his second
start as a short-priced favourite over 1200m.
Other promising performers from this crop include the talented Mick Price
trainee Zahee, an impressive winner when breaking his maiden recently and the
Charles Laird trained filly Dylan's Promise, a winner in stakes company on just
her third start.
Another of his progeny to note in Australia is the highly regarded Peter Moody
trained Irish bred three year-old filly Aeronwy, a triple winner and a likely
candidate for stakes class races in the Spring.
Unsurprisingly for a horse that excelled at three and four years to the extent
that he was named 'European Horse Of The Year' during his four-year-old season,
Dylan Thomas (pictured) has really been making a mark with his first three-year-olds in
the northern hemisphere.
He is the leading second crop sire in Europe in order of prizemoney. That crop
already contains nine individual stakes
performing three-year-olds and includes Tannery, a winner of the Group III Kilboy
Estate Stakes in Ireland just last Sunday and Chutney Flight who claimed a
success in Listed company in France the previous day.
The week before his son Goldoni was just touched off when runner-up in Listed
company in the UK. His ill-fated son Furner's Green had stamped himself one of
the leading three-year-old colts in Europe when finishing a desperately unlucky
third, beaten just a neck, in the Group I French 2,000 Guineas, following a win
in Group III company on his previous start.
Dylan Thomas also numbers Royal Ascot group performer Athens and other group
horses Tower Rock, Nymphea and Devotion amongst his leading progeny.

A champion at three and four, Dylan Thomas claimed six Group I wins during a
stellar career including the Group I King George and the G1 Prix de l'Arc de
Triomphe and the early signs from his first runners are very encouraging.
Yearlings from his second crop realised up to $270,000 at the sales in 2012 and
he has unraced progeny in training with the likes of Bart Cummings, John O'Shea,
Lloyd Williams, Mark Kavanagh, Anthony Cummings and many more of Australasia's
leading trainers.
Dylan Thomas will stand the 2012 season at Coolmore Australia at a value fee of
$13,750 including GST.
