21st Juvenile Winner for Exceed and Excel
Tara Madgwick - Monday, 30 July 2012

Darley heavyweight Exceed Excel posted his 21st Australian two year-old winner this season when the well-bred David Hayes trained filly Popular Acclaim saluted at Echuca on Monday.

A homebred for Jonathan Munz's Pinecliff Racing, Popular Acclaim showed the benefit of a recent spell, breaking through to win the 1109 metre juvenile maiden by nearly three lengths.

The filly had been thereabouts at her four previous starts, placing three times in Melbourne and finishing fifth in a Listed event in Adelaide, but has obviously returned from her break a stronger filly.

"I think she's metro class at least," said David Hayes.

"She's a bit of a skinny thing, but quite tall, so I'm hoping she can develop and train on."

Yet another two year-old winner for Exceed and Excel (pictured) , Popular Acclaim is the first winner for stakes-placed Rekindled Applause (GB), a half-sister to top class performer Rekindled Interest, a multiple Group II winner, who finished third in last year's Cox Plate.

Rekindled Applause produced a colt by Rekindled Interest's sire Redoute's Choice last spring and is due to foal to the same sire this year.
