shuttler Duke Of Marmalade (IRE) sired another impressive debut winner from his
first crop when well-bred filly Morning Frost came with a strong run to deny
eight rivals over 1200m at Deauville in France on Thursday.
The Christophe Ferland trained filly, a 47,000gns Tattersalls yearling
purchase from stakes-winner Evening Time, had clearly been showing plenty of ability at home pre-race and was
sent off a well-backed favourite in a competitive event.
Held up towards the rear of the field in the early stages, the grey filly
produced a sharp turn of foot with a couple of furlongs to run which took her
clear of her rivals before being eased down for a cosy success. The winning
margin of a neck flattered her opposition and she is clearly a filly with a
bright future.
The win of Morning Frost follows on from the eye-catching debut success in
Japan last week of another Duke Of Marmalade two-year-old, the exciting colt
Shake The Barley.
From just a handful of early runners to date, Duke Of Marmalade(pictured) has also sired
progressive colt Count Of Limonade, who shed his maiden tag in dominant fashion
before running a credible third in the Group III Anglesey Stakes recently.
Duke Of Marmalade, a five-time Group I winning son of Danehill from the family
of Champion sire AP Indy, will have his first southern hemisphere bred runners
this season.
His first yearlings realised up to $420,000 at the sales in 2012 and are now in
the care of many of Australasia's finest trainers including the likes of Peter
Moody, John Hawkes, Mark Kavanagh, Tim Martin, Guy Walter, Bart Cummings and
many more.
Duke Of Marmalade is scheduled to stand the 2012 season at Coolmore Australia
at a fee of $22,000 incl. GST.
