Hat-Trick for Relaxed and Happy
Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 4 August 2012

The $100,000 Inglis bonus failed to go off at Canterbury on Saturday with victory in the three year-old Benchmark 75 event going to unbeaten Exceed and Excel gelding Relaxed and Happy.

The Chris Waller trained youngster maintained his unbeaten record, turning in a stylish performance to lead throughout after jumping from the outside gate.

He held off all challengers in the run home to win the 1200 metre dash by more than two lengths with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

Relaxed and Happy had won his only two previous starts at Newcastle and Wyong on heavy tracks, so it was pleasing for connections to see him just as effective on a firmer surface.

"He was used up a bit from the start, but took control of it and was strong at the finish, so there was a lot to like," said Chris Waller.

"He' s just doing this on natural ability at the moment and will be a much better horse when he's been put aside for a while."

Bred by Toorak Park and raised at Mill Park, Relaxed and Happy was withdrawn from the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Adelaide and later offered by Attunga Stud as agent at the Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale where he fetched $62,500 to the bid of Nicholas and James Moore Bloodstock. Already a winner of $115,880 in prizemoney, Relaxed and Happy is the third winner from three foals to race from the Group II winning Royal Academy (USA) mare Regal Kiss, who was on-sold as part of the Toorak Park dispersal in 2010 with Baramul Stud securing her for $75,000 and sending her to New Zealand.

He is another smart type for Darley based Exceed and Exceed and Excel (pictured) , who will stand at afee of $66,000 this spring.
