Dynaformer's Stout Hearted Impresses at Canterbury
Mark Smith - Saturday, 4 August 2012

In April this year, the 27yo Roberto stallion Dynaformer was euthanized at Three Chimneys Farm bringing to an end the career of one of racings great overachievers.

A measure of his success can be gauged from his $150,000 service fee in 2012 however he was withdrawn from service shortly before his death.

By modern day standards Dynaformer covered quite modest sized books particularly earlier in his career. He had 27 named foals in his third crop and he never had more than 87 named foals in a crop.

Equally effective on turf or dirt Dynaformer's 25 Group/Grade 1 winners chalked up success in such prestigious races as the Kentucky Derby, Melbourne Cup, OneThousand Guineas, Irish Oaks, English St. Leger, Blue Grass Stakes, American Oaks, German Derby, Hollywood Derby, Shadwell Turf Mile, Santa Margarita Invitational, Flower Bowl Invitational, Santa Maria Handicap, Yorkshire Oaks, Beverly D. Stakes, Diana Handicap, Florida Derby and Stephen Foster Handicap.

On July 14 the Three Chimneys legend received a grand send off when his son Point Of Entry won the Grade 1 Man o War Stakes at Belmont while daughter Starformer won a Grade 3 at Delaware and another son, Ioya Bigtime captured a Grade 3 at Arlington.

Dynaformer's imported son Stout Hearted has a long way to go before adding to his sires imposing record however he showed with his blistering finishing sprint to win Saturday'sCanterbury BMW Strong Relationships Handicap (1900m) at Canterbury that there are better things in store.(photo Steve Hart)

However trainer Chris Waller said there were no overly ambitious plans for the 5yo gelding immediate future.

"He is still learning the game and settling and I think with that frantic pace today it gave him a chance to settle. Even then he was a bit keen," Waller said.

"He showed that acceleration first up and maybe it was a case of second up syndrome last start but to come back and do it again today, it was great."

"It is a good time of year and we've have a bit of luck with these types of horses. I could compare him to a horse like The Verminator last year. He was just winning mid-weeks, then Saturdays and ended up winning a (Group 1) Metropolitan.

"You need things to fall your way but he has got plenty of condition on him, he is a racehorse and he will be up for a long prep."
Bred by George Strawbridge, Stout Hearted had some useful form in England when trained by John Gosden. The winner of two of his seven starts he came to Australia after a close-up fifth in the valuable Heritage Handicap at Ascot.

Racing in the colours of Geoff and Mary Grimish, Stout Hearted broke through for his first win in Australia at his third start before finishing a close-up fourth at Rosehill at his most recent start.

His dam Seebe (Danzig) is a half-sister to Strawbridge's grand colour-bearer Selkirk who became a highly successful stallion.

Seebe was also a very smart performer. her wins included the Princess Margaret Stakes and she was runner-up in the Dubai Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (G1).
