Eureka Stud's Temple Spirit was awarded Queensland
Leading Broodmare of the Year for 2011 – 12.
Bred and owned by Colin and Scott McAlpine, Temple Spirit (Special Dane ) is
responsible for producing two of Australia's current top sprinters in Group I
ATC The Galaxy winner Temple of Boom and Group I placed and twice Listed winner
Spirit of Boom.
Both bred and now part owned by Eureka Stud, six year-old Temple of Boom(pictured www.stevehart.com.au) by Piccolo (GB) has earned over $1.1 million with 10 wins and 10 placings from
32 starts, his Group I triumph at Randwick sitting alongside three VRC
Flemington stakes wins including the Group II VRC Gilgai Stakes and Group III VRC
Aurie's Star Handicap.
Spirit of Boom, a year younger entire by Sequalo, has won two Listed GCTC
events - Goldmarket Handicap and the Ken Russell Memorial Classic and was placed
fourth in the Group I BRC Doomben Ten Thousand, his older brother 'Temple'
finishing third .
Both "boom" horses are in training with the newly Brisbane-based Tony Gollan,
who also trained their dam Temple Spirit for eight wins in a stakes placed
sprinting career.
Sadly the award for Queensland Leading Broodmare of the Year is a
posthumous one for Temple Spirit, who died in 2010 after producing just four
foals.
