Woodlands Stud shelled out $450,000 to secure the Redoute's Choice filly Stippled at the 2005 Easter Yearling sale but when she went back through the same ring six years later she made $440,000 less.
Stippled never made it to the racetrack and she had two foals for Darley Stud before she was sold at the 2011 Easter Broodmare sale. She had failed to conceive Domesday and the previous season slipped her Street Cry (IRE) foal.
Larneuk Stud needed just $10,000 to take Stippled home. She was among the 92 mares covered by Larneuk resident O'Lonhro at his second season at stud last season.
It is looking like money well spent as Stippled's second foal Mottled won his second consecutive race at Flemington on Saturday.
Punters put their faith in Sepoy's half-brother Mulaazem but he was run-down by Mottled who cleared away to win by two and three quarter lengths.
The Sheikh Mohammed colour-bearer was coming off a maiden victory at Geelong.
It was further encouragement for the supporters of the phenomenal racehorse Street Sense (pictured) who made a relatively slow start to his stud career but has been making every post a winner of late.
"We gave him a great chance. We didn't think he was the outsider at all," Darley's Melbourne foreman Paul Snowden said.
"The Street Senses are coming to the fore in their early three-year-old season. He has been getting a fair few winners lately and hopefully that can continue as well."
The progressive 3yo colt takes his overall record to two wins and a third from 4 starts for earnings of $57,255.
Mottled's dam Stippled is out of a sister-in-blood to Prix Saint Alary (G1) winner Fitnah and a half-sister to the dam of Royal Ascot Queen Anne Stakes winner No Excuse Needed.
