Former
champion racehorse and promising young sire Dylan Thomas (IRE) was in hot form
on Thursday with two winners including the highly promising Chris Waller
trained filly Agon.
Easy in the market in a very competitive three year-old maiden, which featured
runners from many of the leading stables, Agon showed a stylish turn of foot in
the straight to power clear and win the 1200 metre dash by the best part of a
length.
It was the first run back from a spell for Agon, who finished fifth behind
spring stakes-winner She's a Fox at Canterbury back in March at her only other
start.
Agon (pictured as a yearling) clocked nearly a second faster time than the second division and looks a
good thing to follow when she comes to town.
Agon runs in the familiar cerise colours of the Ingham family and was an
$80,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft.
She is the first foal of Stravinsky's Image (USA), an imported daughter of
Stravinsky, who raced successfully in Australia wining metropolitan races in
Melbourne and Brisbane.
Stravinsky's Image has been a regular visitor to Coolmore sires and has a two
year-old colt by Choisir, a yearling colt by Dylan Thomas and will foal to
Lookin at Lucky (USA) this spring.
Not long after Agon saluted, Dylan Thomas chimed in with his second winner of
the day when the Mick Price trained colt Zahee posted his second win from four
starts at Kilmore with a dominant three length victory.
A homebred for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Zahee is the first
winner for Encosta de Lago mare Zaheeya, an unraced daughter of Group II placed
Lady Lexus from the family of Golden Slipper winner Luskin Star.
Dylan Thomas has sired three stakes-winners in Europe this year where his
oldest progeny are now three year-olds, so we can expect his stock to start
making an impression here as they benefit from maturity.
A six-time Group I winning son of Danehill, Dylan Thomas (pictured) stands at Coolmore at
a modest fee of $13,750.
