Snitzerland Sizzles on Seasonal Debut
Mark Smith - Saturday, 18 August 2012

Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland made a stunning seasonal debut in Saturday's $125,000 Group 3 Smithfield RSL Club San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens with a blistering display of speed to down Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Driefontein and the million dollar colt All Too Hard.

The Gerald Ryan-trained filly won two of her 5 starts last season including the Group 3 VRC Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes however her biggest payday came when second to Pierro in the Slipper.

Her second stakes success takes her overall record to 3 wins and 2 seconds from 6 starts for earnings of$950,300.

Ryan will now head to Melbourne with the filly.

Her next start is expected to come in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 8 before running in the Group 3 Champagne stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 28.

"From there we'll sit down and work out if she needs another run before the [Group I] Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) ," Ryan said.

A half sister to three winner including the stakes-placed Red Dress Marley (Hussonet), Snitzerland was a $125,000 purchase by Darby Bloodstock from the Bellerive draft at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling sale.

She is the fifth foal of the unraced Fraar mare Monte Rosa a sister to the grand racemare Nina Haraka a Group 3 winner who placed four times at Group 1 level.

Monte Rosa has a 2yo Hussonet colt. Her foal by All American died and she was bred back to Snitzel last year.

Arrowfield Stud's Snitzel is coming off a remarkably successful season. The son of Redoute's Choice finished second to Lonhro as champion 2yo sire and cracked the top ten on the general sires list with just three crops on the track.
