The
Darley colours were in hot form at Gosford on Sunday, carried to victory by
three blue-blooded three year-olds that all cast off maiden status.
Commands colt Limes was placed in the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes and
Group II ATC Pago Pago Stakes last season, so it was no surprise he went to the
post a heavily backed favourite in the 1200 metre maiden.
He duly saluted by the best part of a length and Peter Snowden will no doubt
target better races with him going forward given he is entered for the Group I
MRC Caulfield Guineas.
Limes is the second winner for Rum Cruise, a half-sister by Canny Lad to Group
II winner Helm from Group I STC Orlando Wines Classic winner Happy Sailing.
Limes was one of three winners on Sunday for Commands(pictured) , who was the leading sire of individual winners in Australia last season.
Also scoring for Darley was Redoute's Choice colt Chiaramonte, who was another
short priced favourite and took out the 1000 metre maiden by a long neck on
debut.
Chiaramonte is the ninth winner from top class producer Chiara, who has left
Group II winners Chinchilla Rose and Ferocity and stakes-winner Leone Chiara,
the dam of dual group I winner Star Witness.
The other division of the three year-old maiden over 1000 metres for fillies
went to Darley homebred Bousquet, who scored by a neck at her third start.
A daughter of More Than Ready (USA), Bousquet is the first foal of Group II
winner Downhill Racer, who was bought by Darley for $850,000 at the 2008 Inglis
Easter Broodmare Sale.
