Victoria Derby Goal for Blue-Blood Colt
Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 29 August 2012

Blue-blooded Redoute's Choice colt Laser Flash opened his winning account at Canterbury on Wednesday when scoring a dogged victory over 1900 metres.

The David Payne trained three year-old was having his second run back from a spell after an unlucky third at Goulburn and relished the step up to a staying trip.

He cruised along for Glyn Schofield and found the line strongly to hold off a determined challenge from last start metro winner Jordan to win by a neck at his fourth start.

"The penny hasnlt quite dropped yet, although he's a nice horse," said David Payne.

"I always thought he was my Derby horse, so he will be entered and then we'll see if he can step up."

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Cressfield draft, Laser Flash races for South African owner/breeder Markus Jooste and is the second foal and first winner for juvenile stakes-winner Personify.

Winning rider Glyn Schofield was impressed with Laser Flash, who is entered for the Group I ATC Spring Champion Stakes on October 6.

"He stays all day and while there is a lot of speed in his pedigree, he doesn't know that," said Schofield.

"He never felt like he would be beaten at any stage."

Laser Flash comes from a powerful Black Type family, his mother Personify (pictured) purchased by Keiran Moore Bloodstock on behalf of Cressfield for $2million when she topped the 2008 Inglis Broodmare Sale.

By champion European sire Galileo (IRE), Personify is a half-sister to five-time Group I winner and champion South African filly Laisserfaire, stakes-winners Foreplay and Time Thief as well as the dam of Group winners Centennial Park and Ballack.

The current two year-old from Personify, another colt by Redoute's Choice, was passed in at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this year and the mare has already foaled this spring, producing a filly by More Than Ready (USA).
