Rekindled Interest has made 16 starts and just one of them, his winning career debut at Bendigo in March 2010 has been outside stakes company.
He has added just two more victories after that first up win earning him very harsh non winner tag.
At three he won the Group 2 AAMI Vase
defeating Lion Tamer who strolled home by six and a half lengths in the
Victorian Derby seven days later.
Twelve months after winning the AAMI Vase, Rekindled Interest captured the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes again at Moonee Vallley and two starts later was a luckless third behind Pinker Pinker in the Group 1 Cox Plate.
The son of Redoute's Choice made his first trip to Sydney during the autumn finishing second to Metal Bender in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill Gardens in one of the races of the season. Just half a length separated the winner and sixth placed Rangirangdoo.
He gets his chance to add to his winning record in Saturday's NZ Bloodstock Group 2 Memsie Stakes (1400m). A victory in the $220,000 feature would take the earnings of Rekindled Interest past $1 million.
A homebred for Jonathon Munz's Pinecliff Racing Syndicate, Rekindled Interest is out of the imported Rainbow Quest mare Rekindled Affair who has left two stakes-winners, one in North America and one in Europe, before her sale to Australia.
Rekindled Affair had just two more foals, both by Redoute's Choice, before her death two days before Christmas 2009.
The richly talented Rekindled Alliance was multiple stakes placed, most recently in the Frank Packer Plate won by Fat Al at Randwick in April. Sadly he died last week when he suffered a heart attack during a track gallop. A $400,000 Easter Yearling he would have been an interesting stallion prospect.
Like Redoute's Choice, Rekindled Affair descends from the remarkable matron Stolen Hour, the dam of the blue-hen Best In Show.
