Their Turn Will Come
Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 2 September 2012

They didn't win Black Type races on Saturday, but they soon will.

They are unbeaten three year-old Choisir colt Proisir and progressive four year-old mare Emotional Circus, both of whom impressed for different reasons at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Gai Waterhouse trained Proisir took another big step in the right direction when scoring a dominant victory.

An impressive winner on debut at a midweek meeting last month, he flew the gates from barrier 10 and surged quickly across to take up the lead.

Proisir (pictured www.stevehart.com.au) controlled the race from that point for Nash Rawiller and coasted home to win the Benchmark 69 event over 1400 metres by more than two lengths.

"He's a very, very exciting horse," Waterhouse said. "He hasn't started for 31 days, they don't often do that

"He had to start from the outside gate and use quite a bit of petrol to get over there and take control of the race. When he came around the turn he just kicked again."

Proisir was bred and retained to race by Anthony and Mario Falcone, who also raced his mother Prophet Jewel, who was a smart Sydney metropolitan winner of six races by Encosta de Lago.

A direct descendant of legendary Kiwi producer Sunbride (GB), Prophet Jewel has an unnamed two year old colt by Dane Shadow, a yearling filly by Dylan Thomas (IRE) and is due to foal to Dane Shadow again this spring.

While Proisir led from the outset, the Jason Coyle trained mare Emotional Circus led for just a few strides, but they were the ones that counted right next to the winning post.

Resuming from a spell, Emotional Circus settled at the rear for Christian Reith and motored to the line to win the 1100 metre dash by half a neck under 59.5 kg.

"She was the best horse in the race and I rode her that way," Reith said.

"The runs came and she needed them too because with the big weight we didn't want to be stopping and starting."

Emotional Circus (pictured www.stevehart.com.au) is likely to head to the Listed ATC Sheraco Stakes (1200m) next start where a clash with champion mare More Joyous and dual Group I winner Streama awaits.

"At this stage we'll keep her to the 1200 metres and look at 1400 metres in time," Jason Coyle said.

"We're focussed on the race (Sheraco) in a fortnight and then we'll make some more plans."

Emotional Circus has blossomed this year and has the overall record of four wins from nine starts with nearly $250,000 in prizemoney.

A homebred for the Evergreen Rich Syndicate, Emotional Circus is by Elusive Quality (USA) from Fastnet Rock's stakes-placed full sister Cirque du Soleil, who has had four foals to race for three winners with Emotional Circus shaping as the best to date.

While her sire Elusive Quality has achieved mixed results in the Southern Hemisphere, he does seem to get his best performers in our part of the world when crossed with daughters of Danehill.

There have been 54 winners from 80 runners bred this way worldwide with seven of them stakes-winners led by Group I winners Sepoy and Camarilla.

Evergreen Stud sold the current yearling from Cirque du Soleil, a filly by Encosta de Lago for $450,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and the mare has a yearling filly by Lonhro and was covered by High Chaparral (IRE) last spring.
