An impressive debut winner at Cranbourne on Thursday was this colt by Redoute's Choice, who was carrying the same colours worn by his champion sire and has an unmistakable heart shaped star on his head.
A homebred for Teeley Assets prepared by Mick Price, Lankan Rupee was sent out
favourite for the 1000 metre maiden and despite racing greenly around the bend,
found plenty in the run to the line to win by the best part of a length.
It was an encouraging debut for Lankan Rupee, who is nominated for the Group I
MRC Caulfield Guineas, a race won by his sire in 1999.
Lankan Rupee is the first winner for the Stravinsky (USA) mare Estelle
Collection(NZ), who was bought by Teeley Assets for $240,000 at the 2005 Inglis
Australian Easter Yearling Sale and went on to win the Group III MVRC Champagne
Stakes.
Estelle Collection comes from an outstanding family, her dam Ana Zeel being a
three-quarter sister to Group I winners Grosvenor and National Gallery, while
other Group I winners on the page include champion racehorse and sire Lonhro as
well as Mahaya, Niello and Miss Keepsake.
Estelle Collection has a yearling filly by Redoute's Choice, but was not
covered last spring so will have no foal this year.
