There is no greater
compliment that can be paid to a young sire than 'he's stamping his stock' and
when the stock are stamped like this, it's going to get people talking.
The sire in question is Arrowfield Stud's young gun Beneteau, a blue-blooded
son of champion sire Redoute's Choice, whose obvious physical appeal and
athleticism made him a $1million Inglis Easter purchase for the Blue Sky
Stallion Fund in 2009.
Prepared by Paul Messara, Beneteau showed tremendous ability in a brief career
of just six starts that was cut short by a paddock accident while spelling.
He scored brilliant wins at his first two starts which included a dominant two
and a half length victory in the Group II MRC Blue Diamond Prelude before
charging home to be beaten half a length behind Star Witness when third in the
Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes.
Beneteau's limited career at two earned him a Timeform rating of 121, shared
with Star Witness, Decision Time and Skilled, and second only to Golden Slipperwinner Crystal Lily (122).
When the time came to retire Beneteau to stud, there was never any question
that he would remain at Arrowfield where he was foaled and raised.
"Arrowfield stand two of Redoute's Choice best sire sons, Snitzel and Not A
Single Doubt, and I believe Beneteau is all set to follow their example," said
John Messara.
Their example is a powerful one, with both young stallions now firmly
established as quality commercial sires capable of producing large numbers of
winners and more importantly stakes-winners.
Beneteau (pictured here as a foal born in 2007) fits their profile in showing abundant speed and natural ability
coupled with masculine good looks and a strong female family, his dam the
stakes-placed Slice of Paradise being a full sister to champion filly Alinghi.
All his foals to date have been totally stamped by him and it's something the
team at Arrowfield are not surprised to see.
"Because Beneteau was born and bred at Arrowfield, we know him particularly
well, so the athleticism and good looks we're seeing in all his foals is
instantly familiar to us," said Arrowfield Bloodstock Manager Jon Freyer.
"His first foals are very much in his mould, well-muscled and strong, with his
presence, colour and markings."
But judge for yourself, take a look at some of these foals!
