was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of Iffraaj (GB), so no doubt
Mark Kavanagh was glad to see If I Could shake off maiden status at Geelong on Friday.
Beaten just a length and a half when resuming from a spell to finish seventh
behind Lady of Harrods in the Group III MRC McNeil Stakes, If I Could was sent
out a hot favourite for the 1100 metre maiden.
Ridden quietly by Michael Rodd, If I Could wound up late to snatch a short head
win and is obviously looking for further.
A $540,000 purchase from the Haunui Farm draft at the 2011 NZB Premier Yearling
Sale, If I Could (pictured as a yearling) is a half-brother to Group I STC Rosehill Guineas winner
Zabrasive and is the sixth winner from stakes-placed Danehill (USA) mare Danasia.
Shuttling to Haunui Farm in New Zealand, Iffraaj is the sire of seven
stakes-winners including the Kiwi based Twilight Granita, who is his first
Southern Hemisphere stakes-winner.
