A New Way for Punters to Lose
Tara Madgwick - Monday, 17 September 2012

With race meetings cancelled in Melbourne in recent weeks due to high winds, this race footage from North America involving the collapse of a running rail mid-race offers a chilling insight into what could occur and why those meetings were justified in being cancelled.

Vinery Stud shuttler Big Brown (USA) is without this new winner on his tally after the race won by two year-old filly  Miss Lucky Sevens at Arlington was declared a no race.

Click here to see the footage as one horse clips the running rail, which then leads to a collapse of several sections of the fence.

No horses and riders were injured in the incident, altjhough several may have found new careers as jumpers!

Stewards Joe Lindeman, Steve Morgan, and Pete Kosiba Jr. said in a statement: "It appeared there was a very small gap in the turf rail on the far turn. A horse brushed the rail at that exact spot that caused several sections of the rail to come apart, landing on the course. Several horses either had to jump or otherwise try to avoid the rail and as a result we had to declare the race a no contest."
