At
age 25 this remarkable mare is a mum again for the 18th time.
She is Huntington Girl, a stakes-placed daughter of Black Zephyr, who has
produced 13 named foals, all of whom have raced for 12 winners led by Group II AJC
Stan Fox Stakes winner Dynamic Love, stakes-winner Key Bar Nights and
stakes-placed Arimathea and Grouse Lane, who is the dam of stakes-winner
Princess Margaret.
An evergreen producer with a great constitution, Huntington Girl has a yearling
colt by Nadeem and foaled again this spring at Wattle Brae Stud producing this filly(pictured with Mum)
by Court Command.
Mother and foal are doing well, which is no surprise to Stud Manager, Ian Brady.
"She's the most sensational mare and she's always so happy to be a mum. She has
an amazing maternal instinct and really protects them, even after all these
years she keeps them to herself if you come too close," said Brady.
"Her owners Michael and Peter Reeves are extremely excited to get another filly
from her as they have had the whole family and foaled Huntington Girl down themselves
all those years ago.
"We'll give her a month or so and see how she is before making any decisions on
her future, but this could well be her last foal."
Her yearling colt by Nadeem is a lovely individual and is destined to be sold
next year at the Magic Millions QTIS Sale.
"He will be a bit of cream in that QTIS Sale and will have the added appeal of
being BOBS and QTIS eligible, which always appeals to buyers," Brady said.
While all is rosy in the world of Huntington Girl, the same cannot be said for
her 19 year-old daughter Grouse Lane, who was her very first foal born in 1993.
"Grouse died this morning after foaling a filly by Show a Heart," Brady
revealed.
"We had to put her down unfortunately, but the filly is fine, so at least Michael
and Peter Reeves will have another one to go on with as they've had so much success
from this family over so many years."
