Arrowfield Stud is home to one of the best broodmare bands in the country and two of their superstars in Miss Finland and Alverta have delivered a couple of gorgeous babies.
Champion two and three year-old filly Miss Finland produced her third foal this morning, a bay filly by Darley heavyweight Street Cry (IRE).
The filly is the first bay produced by Miss Finland, whose earlier foals, a filly (3yo Miss Helsinki) and colt (2c Woodbine) are both chestnut with white markings and sired by Hussonet (USA).
Miss Helsinki was retained by Arrowfield and is yet to trial or race, while Woodbine was sold at Inglis Easter this year for $750,000 and had his first barrier trial at Warwick Farm this morning.
The Gai Waterhouse trained colt finished third to Va Pensiaro and Whittington in the fastest trial of the morning.
Group I STC Coolmore Classic winner Alverta produced her first foal, a colt (pictured below) by Charge Forward, on September 19 and is enjoying motherhood.
By Flying Spur from Grilse (USA), Alverta was the original ugly duckling that grew into a swan for Arrowfield and the arrival of her first foal is sure to have been greeted with great delight.
Alverta was passed in at the 2005 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when bidding stalled at just $20,000 on her $100,000 reserve.
She was retained and given to Paul Messara, who transformed the unwanted yearling into a Group I star and winner of over $1million in prizemoney.
Alverta was actually covered by Charge Forward in 2009, but missed and was returned to work, a decision that proved pivotal as the bulk of her success came after her first misadventure in the breeding barn!
Two years down the track and Alverta went back to stud, again to Charge Forward and this time around all has gone to plan.
Mating plans for Miss Finland and Alverta this year are yet to be finalized.
