Bianconi Gelding Claims JRA Cup
Mark Smith - Saturday, 29 September 2012

The evergreen Darren Gauci guided the Bianconi gelding Bianmick to an upset win over a brace of Cups contenders in Friday's $200,000 Group 3 Programmed Property JRA Cup (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

It was the third consecutive win and first at stakes level for the Michael Brady-trained gelding who takes his overall record to 9 wins, 1 second and 5 thirds from 28 starts for earnings of $278,919.

"I was desperately looking for cover early and I just couldn't get it," Gauci said. "My horse was pulling pretty hard and he actually took me to them sooner than I would have liked.

"I thought, 'I know I am on a fit horse and I know he can run a strong 2400', so I thought 'catch me if you can'. It doesn't always work out but the horse is going really well and he did a good job."

The son of Swettenham Stud's underrated Danzig stallion Bianconi (pictured), Bianmick is the only horse Brady currently trains.

"This is all magic, it's a dream," Brady said

"He's come a long way and we can see the different attitude he has and he's just thriving. It's thrilling for everyone involved."

"He's matured. You can see he is such a happy horse and he likes our environment at home. He's got his special treats that we do with him and he just thrives.

A December foal, Bianmick was due to be consigned to a breeze up sale for two and three-year olds in 2008 but did not go through the ring.

He is the third foal of the winning Citidancer mare Cross Dancer a half-sister to multiple winner Stonnington.

Cross Dancer has a yearling colt by Soldier's Tale (USA) and was bred back to Masterpiece (ARG) last season.
