He
missed the start and ran off the track, but it did not stop Stratum gelding Straturbo from winning easily on debut in a tough three year-old
maiden at Wyong last Friday.
After missing the start, jockey Jason Collett drove Straturbo up to the
quarters of the Gai Waterhouse runner Pearson, who was the best out of the gates
and despite racing keenly he pushed to the lead.
Doing all the work after missing the start was not enough to slow him down, as
he let go in the straight drawing two lengths clear of the field, despite
running toward the outside rail.
Not only is this great news for his owners, but the win has also been
celebrated by those who have purchased shares in his talented full brother also
being syndicated by Elite Thoroughbreds.
Trained by Gary Portelli, Straturbo was a $45,000 purchase for Elite
Thoroughbreds from the Widden Stud draft at the Magic Millions National
Yearling Sale and is the first winner from Weekend Gossip, a half-sister by
Hussonet (USA) to multiple Group I winner Mentality.
Straturbo is one of eight winners in the past seven days for Widden Stud based
Stratum(pictured) , who has made a hot start to the season.
