Aussie Darley Stars to Shuttle
Tara Madgwick - Tuesday, 2 October 2012

Multiple Group I winning colts Sepoy and Helmet will shuttle to Europe for Darley at the end of the Australian breeding season with Sepoy headed for Dalham Hall in the UK and Helmet to Kildangan Stud in Ireland.

This time last year the colts were starring at the Melbourne Spring Carnival where Helmet captured the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas and Sepoy the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Sepoy(pictured)  is currently covering his first book of mares at Darley headquarters in the Hunter Valley at a fee of $66,000, while Helmet is doing likewise at Darley Northwood Park in Victoria at a fee of $33,000.

"Sepoy was the best two-year-old Australia had seen for twenty years and he was the world champion three-year-old sprinter," said Sam Bullard, Darley's director of stallions.

"He is the most popular stallion on our roster in Australia this year where he stands at a fee of AUD$66,000. We already stand Raven's Pass, another son of Elusive Quality, and it's a sireline that is excelling in Europe."

Mick Buckley, Darley's Nominations Manager in Ireland said: "Had it not been for Sepoy, Helmet would have been the champion two-year-old. He won two Group One's at two, was a Guineas winner at three, is gorgeous looking and will suit European breeders down to the ground."

Helmet's sire Exceed and Excel is one of the few Australian bred reverse shuttle sires that have proven successful in both hemispheres and has a big European pedigree on his female side so may well find a niche in the market.

Fees for the pair have yet to be set.
